Tart cherries have some of the highest levels of anti-inflammatory compounds and antioxidants found in any food. They are known to reduce inflammation and pain. Tart cherries contain anthocyanins and flavonoids as all cherries do but in much higher levels. Research shows that tart cherries and juice have benefits for arthritis, gout and fibromyalgia.  Montmorency is the variety most commonly found fresh tart cherry now in farmer’s markets and can be found in juice form at health food stores. And don’t forget dried tart cherries for eating or cooking.In the United States, sports teams are now using cherry juice for their players. It might be worth a try.  Besides, tart cherries are delicious.
